CIty Hall Wedding vs Weddings InStyle

• Weddings InStyle is nestled in the historic Byward Market in downtown Ottawa. Old-world charm meets modern amenities. Your guests will be surrounded with natural sunlight, exposed brick, hardwood floors, and a very New York Loft feel.  City Hall – well its City Hall.

Wedding Decor - Flags

• Our Wedding Chapel is pre-decorated, private and intimate. We are the opposite of City Hall, so imagine, chic, elegance, style and exchanging vows by candlelight. City Hall does not permit wedding décor or candles and let’s face it – everyone looks better by candlelit!

InStyle!

• We are available to perform private ceremonies onsite 7 days week by appointment. City Hall only offers Monday to Friday, between 9-4 Friday evenings, between 5-7 and Saturday afternoons between 1-3. It works on a first come first serve basis and you must wait in the common area where people come to apply for permits and pay parking tickets.
• We offer the ability write your own vows or choose from a variety of traditional vows you feel best reflects you as a couple and this is something that we would be honored to help you with. City Hall does not offer custom vows and uses clinical words such as “The province of Ontario” in your vows.
• We can accommodate 100 people comfortably. Where City Hall has a 7 person maximum restriction.
• We can provide two witnesses if you want to truly elope and surprise your friends and family. City Hall do not provide witnesses.
• We offer multi-lingual ceremonies where as City Hall only offers English and French
• We offer full service weddings including food, bar, wedding planning and coordination services. City Hall does not permit food and alcohol onsite and are not allowed to make recommendations to other local businesses – I know! Strange?!
• Weddings InStyle can be booked for as long as you wish if you would like to have a cocktail reception or formal dinner following your ceremony. City Hall has a maximum time allowance of 30 minutes. 

• …. And the number one reason why Weddings InStyle is better than City Hall is that we have a beautiful brides room onsite where our couples can get ready and make their grand entrance to their music of choice. Your only option at City Hall is the public bathroom and you have to forgo the grand entrance as you must wait together on the main level and music is not an option.

A Valentine’s To Remember

Weddings InStyle, Ottawa’s newest wedding venue, gives a girl her Dream Wedding on Valentine’s Day.

Little did Kayla Nylund know that her wedding day inquiry would result in the wedding day of her dreams.  Kayla, young mother of two boys, wanted nothing more than to have a beautiful wedding, but unfortunately only had a very small budget and could only afford a vow exchange and didn't want to settle for City Hall. 

“It was her honesty and her story that touched me,” says Amanda O’Reilly, owner of Weddings InStyle, “I just wanted to scoop her up and give her the wedding of her dreams.”  And that’s just what she did.

It is not too often in life that we get the opportunity to play fairy godmother,  help a young couple with the odds stacked against them start a life together on the right foot, while teaching them a valuable lesson that they will hopefully pay forward not only with their two young kids but to others in need at the same time. “The gift that I want to give Kayla is to always dare to dream.” says O’Reilly.

O’Reilly contacted David McCaffrey of McCaffrey’s Haute Couture, who offered to outfit Nylund with one of his custom creations.  In fact a mere few weeks before Nylund was on McCaffrey's site and found her dream dress but as nice as they were to look at, the reality was she would never be able to afford such a gown.  She clicked off the site sadly.  She is wearing that dream dress on Valentine's Day. Coincidence? I think not - "it's the universe at work" says O'Reilly who believes that what you put out there always finds a way to manifest itself. 

Then came the rings, the cake, the flowers, the photographer...all graciously donated by various vendors who were equally as touched by her story.  

Sometimes people just need a little help, understanding and love to be able to make a difference in this world, after all as my mentor Tony Robbins said, Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.

Kayla and James wedding will take place on this Valentine’s Day, February 14th  at Weddings InStyle located at 107 Murray Street in the Byward Market and will be captured live on A Morning for those who want to tune in to enjoy the magic of a real fairytale wedding.

Saturday’s are NOT THE ONLY day of the week to say I DO …

 Midweek weddings are becoming more popular with couples who want to save money or avoid having to wait years for their wedding day.  It’s true Saturdays may still be the most popular day of the week to get married (closely followed by Fridays and Sundays), but more and more couples are considering weddings during the middle of the week and reaping the benefits.

The concept of midweek weddings always has been a part of European tradition, and Manhattan society picked up on it at least two decades ago. The custom has slowly made its way throughout the country.

There are a lot of benefits to getting married mid week - Venue availability is probably the biggest. The most popular, trendy wedding venues are now getting booked 18 – 36 months in advance.

Wedding vendors typically have less demand during the week as well, so getting your favorite caterer, photographer, DJ, make-up artist or stylists will likely be an easier feat then trying to fight over what’s left of the 52 available Saturday’s that aren’t already booked.

A weekday/night wedding can also add sparkle to a routine week. Your guests will know about the date far enough in advance to work out their work schedules. If they want to be there, they will.

Intimate weddings are really hot right now and are the trend for 2011. Brides are going for a more personal and comfortable approach. It’s all about gathering your family & friends and celebrating your marriage InStyle!

I had simply accepted that with the city hall ceremony, I would never have the moment I had always dreamed of.

It all started with an idea I had for romantic wedding in the Bahamas. After a few days of struggling on my own, I knew it would be hard to pull it off without any help.
